A fire was discovered around 12.30am on Tuesday night at Te Kura Maori O Porirua School.
A number of explosions were heard and smoke was seen from a distance. Emergency services were quickly at the scene, and the fire was put out.
Porirua Kura released this message the following morning:
“Morena whānau this morning someone broke into the kura and set fire to our van which was parked in Te Hau o Matariki. The fire is out now. Damage has occurred to the van, the glass walkway and the outside of Mānuka. The rest of the kura is okay. The Police and fire service will continue to investigate the cause of the fire. The kura is closed off at the moment until they have finished their work. Please do not go to the kura – he pai tõ tātou kura.”
