New World Supermarkets have just put out a voting website to gain your views on increasing the price of plastic bags in their store.

There are currently 22 New World supermarkets across the Wellington region.

Plastic waste is a major issue in New Zealand, with damages to the environment increasing.

New World is not looking to completely ban plastic bags, but instead work towards a plastic free goal by first introducing a higher charge.

On their website, https://www.bagvote.co.nz/ you are able to vote between 3 options.

1. 5 cents per bag charge to go to environmental or community causes

2. 10 cents per bag charge to go to environmental or community causes

3. Do not introduce a charge for bags

These are the locations of New World Supermarkets in Wellington:

(Churton Park, Hutt City, Island Bay, Kapiti, Karori, Khandallah, Miramar, Newlands, Newtown, Otaki, Paremata, Porirua City, Railway Metro, Silverstream, Stokes Valley, Tawa, Thorndon, Waikanae, Wellington City, Whitby, Willis Street Metro)

You are able to place your vote on the website www.bagvote.co.nz until October 8.
