A Lower Hutt family that live on a corner in Naenae recently placed large concrete blocks to protect their family from the constant flow of cars crashing into their property.
Several times, cars have crashed through their fence, which puts their children at risk if they are playing outside. After the council were unwilling to make any changes to this high risk crash corner, the family decided to take matters into their own hands, and placed concrete blocks outside their house to protect their children.
Today, their children’s lives have been saved by this smart thinking. A car came around the corner on track to plow through their fence, but this time, the concrete blocks stopped the car.
Local residents hope that the council will now take action to reduce the number of crashes on this road, especially as a school is nearby.
