Wellington Regional Council has voted for pets to be allowed on public transport in Wellington.

The new law is expected to be in place by July 2018.

Domestic pets will be able to travel with you free of charge, but there will be rules around having then on board. This includes:
– Being in a suitable carry container that they cannot escape.
– Dogs can only be out of a cage if seated on the floor.
– Only travelling during off-peak times.

Drivers will have the right to say no to any pets coming on board that aren’t able to be controlled properly or are a seen as a risk to other passengers.
