A 52 year old male Wellington (former) teacher has pleaded guilty this morning to 54 charges of making intimate visual recordings or objectionable publications at the Wellington District Court. He has been granted interim name suppression. A hidden camera was used behind a two-way mirror in his bathroom to film girls as young as 12 in the shower. The offending occured over an extensive period of time, averaging out roughly 8-10 women per year. In total he filmed 90 females in his shower creating 260 videos and 81 pictures comprising 31 hours and 21 minutes of footage. Two of the victims were members of his extended family. Six victims were aged 12 to 14 years. There are 54 charges in total, 49 being intimate visual recording charges under the Crimes Act and 5 being charges of making an objectionable publication under the Films and Publication Act. Many more videos were made but could not be included in the charges for legal reasons. The man is remanded on bail until sentencing on June 19.
