A strong 6.7 magnitude earthquake has been shaking the North Island at 3.13pm today. As at 3.26pm Geonet has lowered the magnitude to 6.2. The quake was centered 35km South-west of Taumaruni, and was 193km deep. No damage has been reported yet. Aftershocks are likely.
